The Washington County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) is made up of five elected soil commissioners, and staff representing the USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship (IDALS), Iowa Department of Natural Resources (IDNR), and the Conservation Districts of Iowa.

The West Fork Crooked Creek Water Quality and Soil Health Initiative supports the Iowa Nutrient Reduction Strategy and the Iowa Water Quality Initiative by working with producers within the West Fork Crooked Creek Watershed in Washington and Keokuk Counties.
